L-R – Suzan McGladdery, Barnsley College’s Director of Business Development and keynote speaker Mark Ellis, Business Development Manager at Open Network Services.

Businesses across the region attended a business networking event on Wednesday 9 May to find out about new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and apprenticeships.

Delegates heard from Mark Ellis, Business Development Manager at Open Network Services (ONS), who talked about the introduction of GDPR and the implications on businesses post Friday 25 May.

Suzan McGladdery, Director of Business Development at Barnsley College also gave an apprenticeship update, which included sharing how employers can benefit from employing an apprentice and how Barnsley College can help them recruit an apprentice or up-skill an existing workforce.

Mark said: “The event was an opportunity to update decision makers on the new regulations regarding data protection and the impact this will have on businesses of all sizes.

“This type of event is the perfect platform to build relationships and partnerships. It was a great pleasure to present information on the topic and provide the technical solutions to complete GDPR from all angles.”

Suzan added: “Apprenticeships have changed. Employers now have the power to drive the skillset of their employees and therefore the economy.

“This informal event has allowed us to update and inform employers about the training and apprenticeship programmes available at the College so they can maximise their apprenticeship levy funding and develop new and existing employees.”
