Double A level celebration for Sutton Coldfield College

Sutton Coldfield College students are celebrating their A level results today with an overall pass rate of 99%, an increase on last year.

Achievement rates for the college are at 97% which is 6% above the national rate.

In 17 out of 24 subjects the college is celebrating a 100% pass rate – giving a landmark year for results!

The atmosphere at Sutton Coldfield College was one of celebration this morning as students opened those eagerly anticipated results.

Not only was Naima El-Harcha celebrating her results, she is also the first person in her family to go to university. “I feel like this is a dream,” said Naima who achieved grade A in Sociology and B grades in Philosophy and Psychology. “I’ve worked really hard over the last two years, studying for eight hours a day. I’m happy that it’s all come together.”

She continued: “I can’t thank Sutton Coldfield College enough and all my teachers. I would not be where I am now if it wasn’t for them.”

Naima is going on to study Mental Health Nursing at Hertfordshire University.

With a A* in Anthropology, A in History and B in English Literature, student, Zoe Ates is exploring History degree options at a number of universities. “I didn’t think I’d done well in my exams so these results are more than I hoped for,” she said. “The exam papers all seemed impossible when I first looked at them. I didn’t think what I’d written was any good but after talking to my teachers today, I’ve realised I was well prepared and knew what I had to do. It just goes to show that you can never tell how things are going to turn out. History has always been my big passion so it’s exciting to have new avenues to explore with it.”

An Apprenticeship at KPMG will be the next destination for Alison Teppin. She achieved a grade A in Economics, C in Mathematics and C in Computer Science. “I’ve been keen to start work and got really excited when I saw this opportunity to be a professional services apprentice,” said Alison from Brownhills. “I enjoyed all my subjects, getting a real buzz from economics. I’ve always been better at problem-solving and applying real life situations to the information in front of me. Getting training in the fields of insurance and tax audits is ideal for me.”

Also going to university is Tanwir Gul who achieved B grades in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. “I’ve had some great teachers and the social scene at the college has been good too.” said Tanwir who will be studying biomedical science at the University of Birmingham. He then hopes to progress on to a masters course before pursuing a career as a researcher.

The results today are a boost to the college as it is set to open a new A level centre this September.

Mustafa Shevket, Head of College at Sutton Coldfield College, said: “We are ecstatic about this year’s A level results. Our students have done exceptionally well and it sets the scene for the opening of our new A level centre next month – we can only go from strength to strength.”
