From education to employment

‘Futures’ event inspires next generation of digital superstars

Young people and parents from across the borough visited Clarendon Sixth Form College earlier this week to hear from some of Manchester’s best and brightest digital talent.

The Futures: Careers in Digital event, organised by the Digital Creative Network (DCN), is aimed at helping students gain a career in the digital and creative industries.

The event included speeches by:

  • Joel Rush, digital creative director at AsOne
  • Amelia from Amelia Rose Photography
  • Kim Emson, animation director at Seconds That Count Studios
  • Phil Chalk, managing director at Factory

The contributors all talked about their career paths and how they progressed through work experience and education opportunities.

The Digital Creative Network is a group of businesses and organisations in the digital sector who have come together to help find the next generation of ‘digital superstars’.

The group’s founder, Tracey Rush, is a business development and operations director at digital marketing agency, AsOne.

Jennie Arnold, centre director at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said:

“The ‘Futures’ programme is a great way to find out about the sector from those who have developed their skills through learning and training and succeeded in the industry. The guest speakers are some of the best digital talent in Manchester and there’s always something to gain from hearing them talk.”

Joel Rush, digital creative director at AsOne, said:

“Working in the digital industry wasn’t always what I wanted to do because when I started work there was no such thing, however it has taught me one thing, that opportunities can come at you from anywhere and to be successful in this industry you have to take them whole-heartedly.”
