Half of Female Entrepreneurs don’t have a College or University Degree

Research conducted by Manchester-based fashion brand Missy Empire has revealed the Top 30 Female Entrepreneurs to watch in 2019.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • Compared to their counterparts, self-made female entrepreneurs earn twice as much (141%)
  • More than half (53%) do not have a college degree
  • 80% of these women lead charitable organisations
  • 1 in 5 are aged 60 and above
  • 40% made their millions/billions during their 30’s

The study reveals some surprising statistics surrounding some of the most successful women in the public eye.

Top 5 Most Lucrative Girl Boss Industries

Interestingly, the majority of female entrepreneurs have earned their fortunes through companies in the following industries:

  1. Fashion (43%)
  2. Cosmetics (20%)
  3. Food and Beverage (10%)
  4. Technology (6%) or Sport (6%)
  5. Other (15%)

Top 10 ‘Girl Boss’ Entrepreneurs RANKED by Success:

  1. Beyonce (59)
  2. Ellen DeGeneres (50)
  3. Kim Kardashian (45)
  4. Kylie Jenner (37)
  5. Oprah Winfrey (36)
  6. Serena Williams (35)
  7. Gwen Stefani (32)
  8. Paris Hilton (30)
  9. Venus Williams (30)
  10. Khloe Kardashian (29)

Based on their findings, CEO of Missy Empire, Ash Siddique said:

“Female entrepreneurs are so important and they need to be talked about. Young people today can be inspired by these successful celebrities and know that you don’t necessarily need to have the most obvious criteria to become a Girl Boss.

“We have researched women from all walks of life, and that shows budding entrepreneurs that everybody has a chance to be successful if they work hard enough.”

Out of a possible score of 66, the top female entrepreneurs were ranked based on the following criteria:

  • Number of companies
  • Net worth
  • Charitable contributions
  • Awards won
  • Qualifications and education
  • Searches per month (Google, Instagram and Twitter)
