Leeds City College becomes national leader for cloud based learning

SkillsWorld LIVE is back

Leeds City College has become one of two further education institutions in the country to be awarded Google Reference College status.

This title recognises the innovative work the college is doing around technology enhanced learning and the use of G Suite for Education.

This system allows students to learn beyond the classroom and have access to a wide range of resources that can be accessed 24hrs a day. Over 3,000 Chromebooks are available across the college for students to use.

Leeds City College will now be a source of support and reference for education providers across the UK for sharing best practice with using Google for Education and cloud based technologies.

Steven Hope, Technology Enhanced Learning Manager at Leeds City College, said: “We’re delighted to be leaders in this pioneering technology, giving students the flexibility to steer their own learning and increase their productivity.

“Over the past four years, we have revolutionised the student experience and changed the college culture. It has resulted in a positive impact on students, who find the technology and the use of Chromebooks an easy and accessible method of expanded learning.

“Staff are also being trained and upskilled with G Suite, which is transforming the teaching experience. The tools are helping to encourage and promote creativity, collaboration and teamwork.”

Devin Regis, EMEA Professional Development Lead added: “Congratulations to Leeds City College for achieving Reference College status in the UK. They continue to pave the way for teacher professional development, enabling teachers to utilise Google tools and technology in the classroom to their fullest potential. The direct impact on student attainment and retention is impressive!”
