Pendleton Sixth Form College Victorious at Salford Choral Festival for Second Year Running
Last year, Pendleton Sixth Form College’s Chamber Choir came out on top at the Salford Choral Festival, held annually by MAPAS, Salford’s Music and Performing Arts Service. But, this year it was The Pendleton Consort of Voices who came out victorious.
The festival, which took place on Saturday 9 March 2019, saw The Consort of Voices beat it out over nine senior, professional choirs from within the Salford area. The Consort of Voices and the Chamber Choir were amongst the youngest and least experienced performers in the competition, yet captivated both the judges and members of the competing choirs.
It was a close competition between the two Pendleton choirs, but the judges agreed, ‘The Pendleton Chamber Choir was superb, however the Consort of Voices performance was truly stunning’.
Neil G Bennett, Head of Pendleton Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts, said: “It is absolutely thrilling to win the Salford Choral Festival for the second year running. It is a great testament to the ability of the students at Pendleton and to the quality of our enrichment programme and The Season of Shows, the series of shows we put on throughout the academic year.
“Pendleton Sixth Form College really is the place to come to study Performing Arts in The North West of England and accolades like this really attest to that.”
Rohan Jenkin, Pendleton student, said: “Saturday was my first experience at the MAPAS festival and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Pendleton Consort of Voices has been a huge part of my first year and the praise we received was incredibly rewarding.
“I look forward to attending again next year.”
Both choirs run as extra-curricular activities for students studying within the performing arts department at the college, and both perform at numerous showcases, events and occasions.
