A South Eastern Regional College (@S_ERC) Northern Ireland Film & Television School (NIFTS) student production has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Royal Television Society (@RTS_media) NI Student Awards 2021.

Alison Thompson, Course Director and Lecturer said, “We are delighted that She Cries At Night, written and directed by Newtownards man Stephen Parker, and crewed by the rest of the class, has been shortlisted for this prestigious award, the equivalent of the BAFTAs for film students.

She added, “She Cries at Night is a sinister short. The students completed the shoot on location outside Lisburn in February 2020, just before we entered the first lockdown. The edit took place remotely and once Stephen was happy with the end result, the film began its festival circuit. Earlier this month it was selected for screening at Grimmfest, Manchester’s International Festival of Fantastic Film.

She added, “The class of ten students all played a role on the shoot, which was filmed across two days by Stephen Parker, Colin Bloomer, Lee Seales, Marc McCabe, Samantha Davies, Antonia Cowan, Josh Bell, John Lennox, Chris Mills and Jane McLaughlin.

Alison concluded, “This is the second year running the students have been shortlisted for the scripted drama category, usually the most hotly contested. Last year, Stephen also wrote and directed the winning entry, Circle, during his HND year.”

The winners will be announced in an online ceremony on Wednesday 24th March 2021. Register to watch here
