From education to employment

What are the FE recruitment challenges for 2016?

With the sector undergoing huge changes and the impact of area reviews yet to be fully realised, we chat to three FE experts to get their views on the FE recruitment challenges for 2016.

We interview Ian Sackree, chief operating officer at Protocol, Claire Sharp, director at FEA, and Roger Levett, group director at Reed Specialist Recruitment.

Sackree explains how the sector needs to recruit 10,000-12,000 new members of staff every year just to stand still. He shares a few ideas on how to attract employees from industry, and newly qualified teaching and lecturing staff, to achieve this figure.

According to Sackree, it is important that the sector projects a positive image and provide career progression routes from lecturer to vice principal. Click on the video below or click here for the full article on FE Careers.

Sharp speaks about the importance of commercial skills for executive level staff such as principals, and how the sector is valuing the importance of strong MIS skills.

Levett covers the race for talent in the sector, and the importance of providing the right working environment for staff to thrive and choose FE over the commercial industry.
