Some of the UK’s very best young engineers and manufacturers competed for the opportunity to represent their country at this year’s international WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi, as Training 2000 hosted several Team UK selection heats.
Training 2000’s Blackburn headquarters hosted the selection competitions in three categories, CNC milling, CNC turning and the Manufacturing Challenge, complimenting a variety of other competitions across numerous industries taking place in the Greater Manchester area.
Competitors arrived on site at the beginning of the week to get used to the machines they would be using during three full days of competition – with Training 2000 being chosen to host the prestigious event due to boasting the best facilities in the area to meet the needs of each category.
Visitors included over 250 Training 2000 learners who had the opportunity to gain an insight into the WorldSkills competition, and potentially be inspired to apply themselves for the next competition cycle.
Attendees from Lancashire business also had the opportunity to view the competitors in action, alongside the chance to see Training 2000’s facilities including the £1.2m Advanced Manufacturing & Automation Centre, with members of staff on hand to explain the competition and more about the machines they were using.
Steve Gray, Training 2000 CEO said: “We’re a strong supporter of the competition, with Training 2000 finishing 5th out of 140 providers at WorldSkills UK 2016, and we were excited to host this selection as participants who have already proven their abilities at the national level compete for a place in this truly global event.”
WorldSkills UK Competitions inspire apprentices and young people to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills excellence to raise productivity. The international WorldSkills competitions are held every two years, with national competitions taking place annually.
Team UK for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will be announced on 21 April.
