We catch up with Paul Warner, Director of Policy and Strategy at the AELP to chat about the Apprenticeship Levy. Paul had been running a series of workshops at the AELP annual conference on the Apprenticeship Levy, that were proving so popular there was often only standing room only. Not many workshops are this popular, so we thought it would be interesting to see what Paul had to say.
Paul explained how the details are still emerging and the Levy development are moving at a very fast pace. This is set to continue with the next round of information on the Levy due to be released in the coming weeks. However, Paul did explain the benefits to the Levy for existing providers, sub-contractors and new emerging providers.
Paul comments “With the Levy coming in it’s really going to remove the restrictions that we’ve had on funding in a way taht we have not see before. The biggest break on Apprenticeship growth over the last few years has been the availabilityof funding and we know through the frustration that providers have had about having had growth requests turned down when they have got employees waiting etc. That has been a realll key issue. What we’re going to have from next year is that providers will be able to go to an employer and discuss with them a contract on commercial terms”.
