OCR’s Charlotte Bosworth on the importance of keeping the learners voice alive

FE News chats with Charlotte Bosworth, OCR’s skills and employment director, at the Voice of Apprenticeships conference.

She talks about the importance of keeping the ‘voice of the learner alive’, and discusses OCR’s recent learner survey. According to the research, 60% of those surveyed did not know that an apprenticeship was an option for them during their careers advice sessions.

These findings highlight the need for independent advice and guidance for young people, particularly highlighting the vocational routes available. With only 5.6% of 16-18 year olds in Apprenticeships and 40% going onto Higher Education, there is a huge number of young people who are currently not being engaged.

Bosworth explains the importance of highlighting the positives of vocational education for young people, and the need to develop different ways to deliver vocational training.
