Mount Anvil CEO calls on Government and other firms to deliver more opportunities for London apprentices
Mount Anvil’s National Skills Academy provides training for more than 100 young Londoners
The Minister of State for Housing and Planning, and Minister for London, Gavin Barwell, visited Mount Anvil’s National Skills Academy for Construction yesterday, based at Keybridge in Vauxhall, meeting the apprentices that will become the construction workforce of the future.
The Minister met with Mount Anvil’s CEO, Killian Hurley, and apprentices from Mount Anvil’s National Skills Academy to discuss the importance of helping young people into training, and highlight the work of their National Skills Academy for Construction.
Mr Hurley welcomed the Apprenticeship Levy and encouraged the Government to continue to invest in apprentices to address a skills shortage in the local labour force.
Launched a year ago in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Mount Anvil’s National Skills Academy for Construction provides young people with a step-up to become the construction workforce of the future, providing training for more than 100 young Londoners looking to embark on a career in construction through apprenticeships, NVQs, work placements and work experience opportunities. Additionally, another 500 unique learning opportunities will be offered to local schools, colleges, and charitable trusts to help encourage the next generation of talent into the industry.
The visit comes during National Apprenticeship Week and ahead of the introduction of the Government’s new Apprenticeship Levy on 6th April, which is intended to address some of the skills shortages felt across the country.
Housing and Planning Minister, Gavin Barwell said: “This Government is committed to helping young people gain essential skills and prepare for their future careers. Schemes like the National Skills Academy are playing an important part in achieving that.
“As set out in our Housing White Paper, we’re working with the construction industry to make sure there is strong leadership to address the skills challenge. This will help us build the homes this country needs. We need more companies, like Mount Anvil, playing their part and investing in the construction workforce.”

Mount Anvil’s National Skills Academy aims to provide quality apprenticeships to young people, especially to those from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to get onto the ladder of opportunity.
Mount Anvil is the only residential developer in London to have been awarded National Skills Academy for Construction status by the CITB.
The National Skills Academy is based at Keybridge in Vauxhall, where Mount Anvil in partnership with FABRICA by A2Dominion are creating 470 tenure-blind homes, employment space to support 500 – 1,000 jobs, and one acre of landscaped open space including public art by British artist Tom Price.
