Friends, family and teachers gathered at Dukinfield town hall on Thursday 30th November to celebrate the achievements of students at Tameside College’s Higher Education Graduation ceremony.

The event, attended by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Joyce Bowerman and her consort, Mr Fred Bowerman, recognised the attainment of students at degree level and above in a variety of sectors that included: engineering, sport, public services, teaching, human resource management, business, early years, computing and accounting.

Professor Phil Harris, Executive Director, Business Research Institute, Chester University addressed the graduates: “Tameside has had a long record of public service and proud heritage of manufacturing. Despite the gloom of Brexit we are living in relatively affluent times. Remember that change is constant: government, people and opportunities. You are now the headline makers, you set the agenda. Be true to yourself and make the difference.”

Jackie Moores, Tameside College Principal, praised the graduates and their families on their success: “This evening we are celebrating a milestone in you learning journey; it is our way of telling you how well you’ve done. It is a celebration of your dedication, determination and enthusiasm. As a place of learning it is satisfying for Tameside College to watch how the transfer of knowledge has helped you grow in confidence, ability and ambition.”

Tameside College offers a wide range of higher level and professional courses which have been developed to meet skill gaps identified in Greater Manchester’s economy.
