Top students celebrated at Trafford College’s annual FE awards

The outstanding achievements and successes of Trafford College’s students have been celebrated at the annual FE Students Awards evening.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Atrium at Trafford College for the glittering ceremony where Principal Lesley Davies OBE presented students from each of the curriculum subjects with a Student of the Year trophy, some of whom have bravely battled against adversity to achieve success.

Eight students in particular were celebrating after being individually honoured as special prize winners out of all the 10,000 learners in the whole college. These additional categories included Enterprise Student of the Year, Personal Achiever of the Year, Student Voice Award and the Employability Award.

Those who have achieved their Silver Standard for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award also collected their certificates. The evening concluded with the presentation of the coveted Outstanding Contribution to Trafford College Award to Anisa Khalil.

Anisa has made an invaluable contribution to the College’s charity campaign during her two years studying A-levels. She was also recognised for the assistance she has provided to her peers. Anisa said: “I feel so grateful to receive this award, studying at Trafford College has been a privilege.”

Among the other winners was Callum Murphy who picked up two awards – Student of the Year for the Professional Chef and Personal Achiever of the Year.

Callum’s journey is truly inspiring and is true testament to what our learners can achieve when they take up the fantastic opportunities which are available to them through Trafford College in the hospitality industry.

Callum has taken part in work placements at The Savoy in London and Tain L’Hermitage in France as well as representing the College in the National Hotel Takeover at the Holiday Inn Manchester, and has now been offered a full-time position at The Savoy.

Callum, who has ambitions to run his own restaurant one day, said: “Studying at Trafford College has improved my confidence and my practical skills in the kitchen. It’s excellent to win these awards.”

Principal Lesley Davies said: “It’s been such a fantastic evening where so many students have been recognised for their talents. I feel very proud to present these awards and the achievements of the students are testament to their hard work and determination and I’m sure they all have bright futures to look forward to.”
