From education to employment

Fareham College computing and gaming students impress at showcase event

Talented Level 3 Gaming, Computing IT and Business students at Fareham College proved they have what it takes to be future game designers and developers at an event to showcase their final projects.

Showcasing their work to peers, parents and employers, the variety of projects presented included a retro game designed and coded completely from scratch, a task-completing robot constructed entirely from Lego and an app that lets you place your image in exotic locations to enhance your Instagram feed.

The event also gave an opportunity for the College’s Level 1 Hospitality and Catering students to demonstrate their talents, who prepared and served drinks and canapés.

Fareham College’s Director of Faculty, Ashley Michael said: “The digital sector is at the heart of contributing to the economy, so it is incredibly important that we prepare young people for the fantastic opportunities that exist for them in industry. This event gives our students the opportunity to showcase their amazing talent and skills, as well as providing them with a platform for their work to be recognised. I am extremely proud of what they have achieved.”

Student Tilly Brice, whose final project was a retro video game inspired by the 1980’s classic Pac-Man, said: “This event is a really good opportunity for us to show what we have learned during our course.” Tilly is hoping to go to the University of the Arts in Norwich to study Game Art.

Student Charlie Holland, who worked with Tilly on the game and is hoping to attend the University of Winchester to study 3D Environments, added: “I think the event went really well and for me, being given the opportunity to speak to the guests, has grown my confidence so I now feel better prepared when presenting to people in the future.”
