From education to employment

SERC Student wins BTEC Silver Award for Travel & Tourism

Congratulations to Hannah Louise Stewart, Level 3 Travel and Tourism student, from South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC) Lisburn Campus who has won a Silver Runner-Up Award for BTEC Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Student of the Year 2019.

Silver Award winners have achieved excellent grades, demonstrated clear passion for their subject and a significant contribution to the life and/or study of others,  through mentoring or coaching; examples high achievement and going “above and beyond” in their commitment to an extracurricular activity through volunteering or entering competitions; and taking the initiative to develop their skills through additional work placements or otherwise gaining industry experience outside of what’s expected from the course.

Catherine Anderson, Curriculum Manager at SERC said, “We are thrilled for Hannah on receipt of her BTEC Silver Award.  She has demonstrated great passion and motivation in all aspects of her studies and has been particularly successful in her entrepreneurial  activities within the College, working with two other students in a student company called City4Life to develop a blueprint for an app what will assist in bringing tourism into the City of Lisburn.

“Hannah has an extensive work experience in the travel and tourism industry which includes working within restaurants, hotels, bars and management. This experience is supported by her qualifications and desire to progress which will enable her to achieve more in her career long-term. Her industry experience has developed her knowledge of tourism trends, how to manage complaints, marketing, business planning, events and financial modelling.

“Hannah loves travel and has already visited four continents. She has also worked voluntary in Kenya, caring for animals in an area of conservation. I have no doubt that the sky really is the limit for Hannah and wish her every success for her future studies and career.”

Ken Webb, Principal and Chief Executive of South Eastern Regional College said, “Congratulations to Hannah on her BTEC Student of the Year Silver Award. Hannah clearly demonstrates a passion for learning in her chosen subject area. Not only is she gaining desirable qualifications in travel and tourism and employability skills, but she is equipping herself with valuable industry experience. Together, with her determination, Hannah will have the edge to follow her chosen career path.”

Hannah is progressing to Higher Education with SERC to complete the HNC International Travel and Tourism Management from September.
