The fashion show and reception was held at the prestigious Fashion and Textile Museum in London in June, 200 guests attended the awards from the fashion, media, environmental and ethical industries including celebrated design Zandra Rhodes.
All the entrant’s designs had to combine current trends and style whilst addressing at least one of the key issues surrounding ethical fashion; fair trade, organic materials, recycling, animal friendly or innovative environmentally friendly new materials, and all for under £100. Apart from the prestige of reaching the final, Sarah and Emilie were presented with a Brother sewing machine.
Emilie from Holmes Chapel said:
‘We were amazed and pleased to have reached the finals. The fact that we used purely organic materials such as bamboo and hemp jersey helped to get us through.’
‘We were also the only entry to submit a business plan, which showed thorough costings and the effects of green issues on the fashion industry’ added Sarah from Crewe.
Emilie and Sarah are Foundation Degree fashion students and will return to college in September to complete their final year.
