From education to employment

FE Careers reaches award finals

Specialist recruitment website FEcareers.co.uk has reached the finals in two categories for the Onrec Awards 2009.

The online recruitment industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony, which is now in its fourth annual year, celebrates the growth, innovation and achievements of websites in the sector.

FEcareers.co.uk, the sister site of FEnews.co.uk, was voted to become finalists for the Innovative Online Marketing Award – Niche, and Best Public Sector Recruitment Site.

Gavin O’Meara, chief executive, said: "I am delighted that FE Careers and FE News are finalists in two categories for the Onrec Awards 2009. We have worked very hard to make FE Careers as user friendly as possible, and FE News has always had one aim of providing a true voice for FE and the Skills sector, to help bring ideas together to further improve the learner experience.

"Further Education is the opportunity sector, and now more than ever. FE is so vast and provides so many different learning experiences – all too often picking up the pieces where mainstream education or the economy has failed to deliver. There has never been a more important time for the FE sector to deliver the goods – through skills development and employability – as we face one of the most difficult economic downturns known in recent times.

"We will come through this difficult period, and I will be immensely proud to look back and see that this was the FE sector’s finest hour. Change is definitely in the air. The old has gone and the new direction is certainly upon us. The time when our nation’s obsession with the accumulation of rapid wealth is soon to be superseded with the UK’s realisation of long-term investment in Skills and continual training to drive out the recession. The whole FE sector can do this if we pull together. I have a dream of a united FE sector, with one goal of providing the re-skilling and employability training for our nation to not just come out of an economic crisis, but to provide the long-term skills and ambition to be a truly innovative and leading nation once again."

The awards are hosted by Onrec, the online recruitment magazine, and will be announced at the Sheraton Hotel on Park Lane, London, on March 25.
