A FLYING START FOR TRAVEL STUDENTS

Travel students from City of Wolverhampton College got off to a flying start in their careers when they went behind the scenes at British Airways.

The group of 30 students, who are all studying for their Level 2 or Level 3 Travel and Tourism qualification, travelled to the Global Learning Academy for British Airways at Heathrow Airport to experience some of the intensive training undertaken by BA cabin crew.

As part of the day the students had the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including using the escape slide, extinguishing a fire, crawling through a smoke filled cabin and taking part in a mock emergency evacuation on a flight simulator.

Lecturer Helen Spiteri said: “This was a great chance for students to gain an insight into the working day of a member of cabin crew and how much is expected of them.

“The day helped many of them to decide this is now a career they would like to pursue.”
