Access to HE conference will focus on improving social mobility and inclusion

The theme of this year’s OCN London Access to HE conference has been prompted by the White Paper Higher Education: success as a knowledge economy (published in May 2016) which set out far-reaching proposals for widening participation in higher education to reach more people from non-traditional backgrounds. Theresa May, in her first speech as Prime Minister, pledged to reduce social divisions and inequalities, saying: “If you’re a white, working-class boy, you’re less likely than anybody else in Britain to go to university”.

Over the past quarter of a century at OCN London we have developed unparalleled expertise in helping people from less advantageous backgrounds to get to university through our Access to HE Diplomas. This year’s conference will present some the latest thinking on the role of education in social mobility with practical workshops. There will also be a chance to hear some of the compelling stories from adults who have succeeded against the odds.

Date/time: Wednesday 12 October. Starts 10.00am. Finishes 4.00pm.

Venue: Park Crescent Conference Centre, 229 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PN.
