Cardiff and Vale College student Shauna is the Rolls Royce of apprentices

Cardiff and Vale College student Shauna Holmes has been given an unconditional offer of an Advanced Apprenticeship at Rolls Royce when she finishes her course.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical learner will start her apprenticeship with the World-renowned engineering company in September.

“I’m over the moon, I’m chuffed to pieces to say the least!” Shauna, who is 17 and from Bridgend, said. “I’m going straight on to the Advance Apprenticeship, overhauling engines and maintenance and manufacture.

“I did work experience at Rolls Royce last summer and it was just amazing. All I’ve wanted to do from a very young age is work in engineering – in the last five years I thought more about specialising in aerospace. The bigger the better!”

Shauna said her time at Cardiff and Vale College’s International Centre for Aerospace Training (ICAT) has been essential in preparing her for the role.

“An Advanced Apprenticeship with Rolls Royce is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me,” she explained. “The skills and the knowledge that I have learned at the College have definitely helped me progress – I would never have considered working with Rolls Royce before I came here, and now I soon will be.

“My tutors said the Aeronautical course would open my eyes and it really did!”
