The Career Colleges Trust’s digital lead, Julia Von Klonowski, has been appointed to sit on the panel of industry professionals who will oversee the creation of the new Digital T Level curriculum.

One of three digital panels, the Data and Digital Business Services group will be chaired by John Meech, Lead Service Solution Architect at Fujitsu. He and Julia will be joined by digital professionals from a range of organisations including the Bank of England, Lloyds Banking Group, Accenture and the CGI Group.

Julia herself has an extensive industry background and currently works with the network of digital Career Colleges across the UK. Prior to working with Career Colleges her role was Oracle Director of Education for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Julia is a governor and advisor to Further Education colleges and an Apprenticeship Ambassador. She also works with various businesses to help close the skills gap by developing young people’s digital and business skills .

Julia has over 30 years’ experience in the IT industry and has spent the last 15 years concentrating on the effective use of technology in education. She spent the first 15 years of her working life in South Africa, where she ran her own business delivering IT solutions into the business market.

Commenting on her appointment, Julia says:

“I am delighted to be part of the development of these crucial and much needed qualifications. This country is facing a huge digital skills crisis and we need to ensure that high quality educational pathways are created in this expanding field.

“Engaging employers and industry experts into the process is vital. We know what skills businesses need and can offer insight into the many careers and job opportunities on offer.

“I am confident that with this employer-led approach, T-Levels will create a much more balanced education system – offering far more opportunities for young people and for businesses.”

First announced in 2016, T Level qualifications are a key milestone in transforming technical education in the UK, providing young people with the opportunity to study a technical qualification at Level 3 – A Level equivalent. All T level programmes will feature a significant period of work experience, ensuring students are prepared for work and equipped with the necessary employability skills.

The Digital T Level Panel will be meeting each month to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours for the identified occupations. The curriculum will be ready to be implemented and taught by 2020.

A number of Career Colleges Trust representatives are involved in the design and consultation panels for T Level. This includes Work Placement pilots, which are set to revolutionise how young people learn.
