CITY OF WOLVERHAMPTON COLLEGE STUDENTS BUILD SKILLS IN BRICKLAYING COMPETITION

Talented construction students from City of Wolverhampton College pitted their skills against each other when they took part in a bricklaying competition.

A total of 12 students who are studying for a Level 2 diploma in brickwork had six hours to build a hollow pier with a soldier panel using contrasting bricks.

The competition – sponsored by homebuilding company Taylor Wimpey – was organised to give students the chance to work to an employer’s brief and demonstrate their skills to industry professionals.

Top prize of a £75 Screwfix voucher went to 17-year-old Matt Tune, with second prize going to Ajay Badhan, aged 19, and third prize of a £25 voucher to Jodie Jones, 18.

Matt said: “I felt very honoured to take part in the competition and it felt even better to get first place – I plan to buy some new tools with the voucher.”
