IE University responds to coronavirus with online expertise
IE University has confirmed a newly diagnosed case of COVID-19 on the Segovia campus. The affected student returned last week from a trip to an at-risk country. In the light of this new case, the University has decided to move all classroom-based courses at the Segovia campus online, and adapt the schedules of non-academic activities.
IE University’s campuses in Madrid and Segovia remain open, as recommended by the health authorities. Students on the Madrid campus can attend classes in person or choose to continue their courses online.
The student recently diagnosed with the virus is under medical supervision in Segovia. Following his trip to the at-risk country, he attended class until February 27th. His first symptoms began on March 1st, at which point he began quarantine. The student is doing well and continuing his courses online from home.
This case follows a February 26th diagnosis of a student on the Segovia campus, who is currently hospitalized. A student on the Madrid campus also tested positive on March 1st and is hospitalized and in stable condition.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, IE University has been working to protect the health of students, faculty, and staff, in line with the recommendations of the health authorities. The institution aims to provide information in a transparent manner and to maintain academic teaching.
In its communications with students, faculty, and staff, IE University has outlined its travel policy recommendations aimed at protecting the health of the entire community. IE University advises against travelling to at-risk countries and regions, following the recommendations of the Spanish Ministry of Health. In further precaution, IE University asks that any member of the community who has recently visited a country or region at risk observe a 14-day quarantine period upon their return and seek medical advice.
“Our commitment is to protect the health of our community. We are an international institution, with students and faculty from more than 130 countries. Twenty years ago, we were pioneers in Europe with the launch of our online training programs, and leading media organizations such as the Financial Times consider our Online MBA programs to be the second best in the world. Yesterday, we bolstered the content on our online training platform for all our students who cannot attend classes on campus, and the feedback we have received is very positive. Our campuses remain open and our teaching continues as normal,” said Gonzalo Garland, Vice President of External Relations at IE University.
