Grant Thornton’s Darren Matthews wins City Gateway’s Future Leader award

12 May 2016

Leading business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP is proud to announce that Darren Matthews has been awarded the Future Leader 2016 award at this year’s City Gateway’s annual awards.

Darren joined Grant Thornton through City Gateway’s apprenticeship scheme in January 2015, to support across the firm’s recruitment activities. Darren excelled in the role, demonstrating huge potential for growth, and now has a permanent position within the team as a resourcing co-ordinator.

Richard Waite, Senior Talent and Resourcing Manager, at Grant Thornton commented, “This award is truly deserved and recognises Darren’s dedication, unwavering enthusiasm and commitment to his role. We have seen Darren flourish over the past year due to his determination to develop his skills and get the most out of the opportunities available to him. Darren encapsulates what we look for in our future leaders here at Grant Thornton, and proves how important it is to widen your recruitment net beyond the traditional routes to find new talent. Congratulations Darren on this brilliant achievement!”

Darren Matthews added, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Future Leader 2016 award. City Gateway’s apprenticeship has been invaluable in helping me kick-start my career and offered me an opportunity that not too long ago would not have been available. Grant Thornton has been extremely supportive throughout my apprenticeship and on into my new position, and I cannot thank my team enough for their continued investment and coaching. This award recognises Grant Thornton’s continued focus on helping people unleash their potential for growth and I look forward to what the future has in store.”

City Gateway is a London focused charity that offers a range of apprenticeships and traineeships with leading organisations. Grant Thornton has been partnered with City Gateway since 2013 and has so far taken on a total of 16 apprentices. The firm currently offers apprenticeships within all aspects of their business.
