A YOUNG @MbroCollege welder has scooped a national award for his skills

Talented Josh Arrondelle, 17, beat other welders from across the country to win a prestigious Livery Company Prize – a title that recognises outstanding achievement among trainees.

Josh, a Level 3 Welding student at Middlesbrough College, travelled to London to receive his award in person at a ceremony in London hosted by The Rt. Hon The Lord Mayor, Alderman William Russell.

He said: “I’m thrilled to have won this award. I’ve put a lot of hard work in to building my skills, and this will help me to stand out even more in the jobs market.

“The Livery Company Prize is one of the most prestigious in the country. I couldn’t have done this without the support of my teachers at Middlesbrough College – they’ve always helped me along every step of the way.

“The course has given me insight into a wide range of industry areas, and now I’m looking at a career in underwater welding.”

The Livery Company Prizes are a collaboration between the Livery Company Skills Council, which promotes vocational training, and The City and Guilds London Institute.

Zoe Lewis, principal and chief executive of Middlesbrough College, said: “We’re exceptionally proud of Josh and his achievements. That he’s been able to secure this national award is not only testament to his own hard work, but also the quality of teaching at Middlesbrough College.

“The investments we’ve made mean that our vocational training offer is industry-leading, making sure learners leave us with exactly the right skills that employers need in the workplace.”
