The Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation (DEBI) was recently approached by Lantra and asked to deliver the First Aid at Work (FAW) training to their candidates, providing a great opportunity to build on the initial training they carried out.

Students Fergus Hitchcock, Diane Smith, Julie Hill, Leanne Woodrow-Parkinson and Luke Taylor enjoyed the challenge of not just of FAW training objectives but also the fact that they covered rural modules thoroughly as well.

Studying subjects such as ATV Safety driving, Chainsaw Injuries, Hypothermia and Lyme Disease, the participants were taught how to give first aid to casualties in all these scenarios, as well as others.

Adhering to the required Covid 19 regulations, the candidates were able to bring their own experiences of first aid instances to the table, which added a bonus to the learning process as a whole.

Chrys Murphy, who led the training session, commented:

“The session was very successful and enjoyed by all involved. The verbal feedback given was excellent, expanding the candidates’ knowledge of first aid and the additional modules covered made the course really top class.

“The participants expressed their gratitude for the excellent informative handouts, as this added real value to their rural development and will enable them to act positively if ever a future incident were to occur in the workplace.”
