Rotherhithe primary school recognised for raising the progress of their lowest achieving students
A City of London Academy primary school has been recognised by the Mayor of London after the Department for Education received data from 2017 showing the “school had made fantastic progress with students that started behind their peers”.
Pupils at Redriff Primary, City of London Academy, who had a low attainment level when they started at the school have, throughout their time, improved dramatically making their progress level in the top six per cent of London schools.
The school in Rotherhithe has been invited by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to join his Schools for Success Programme, which gives staff and governors from Redriff the opportunity to share best practices with other schools.
Mickey Kelly, Headteacher of Redriff Primary School, said:
“Every child has the right to a good education and the best support to reach their full potential.
“Children come to Redriff, at different levels and we try hard to ensure that when they leave us in Year 6, they leave with the skills and capacity for their next chapter.
“We are all very proud of this achievement and credit must be given to all the support staff and teachers who work day in, day out to ensure that each child is fully supported.”
Andrew McMurtrie, Chair of City of London Academies Trust, said:
“The City of London Corporation aims to ensure that young Londoners in all our schools have access to high quality teaching and guidance that will help them to progress into fulfilling careers.
“Congratulations to everyone at Redriff Primary School on this great achievement.”
Staff from the school will be invited to receive a certificate to recognise their achievement at a special event in October.
Redriff Primary, City of London Academy was rated as Outstading by Ofsted in 2011.
In 2017, the Sutton Trust named the City of London Corporation as the UK’s best academy sponsor for empowering pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to perform above the national average, and the leading academy sponsor for Progress 8 and Attainment 8, which track pupil progress and achievement.
