SERC nominated for @Irish_News Workplace Wellbeing award

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has been announced as a finalist for the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards for Workplace Wellbeing.

Now in its 12 year and with a record number of entries just shy of 180, with 109 different businesses, public sector organisations and schools and colleges in contention to win a converted WEA award, The Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards recognise the importance of people to an organisation and celebrate the very best organisation in Northern Ireland.

The Workplace Wellbeing category is for businesses who are recognised as having healthy and happy staff who enjoy higher levels of staff morale, productivity and ultimately profitability. SERC are competing against 14 other businesses.

SERC demonstrated their commitment to workforce wellbeing earlier this year with the launch of Mind Yourself campaign – an initiative in partnership with Health Matters to raise awareness and promote health and wellbeing in the workplace.

SERC also signed up to the Health Matters Register of Intent to show their commitment to supporting staff and have 15 mental health first aiders on campus.

Thanks to the Mind Yourself campaign, employees have already benefited from staff appraisal schemes, cycle to work scheme, reduced gym membership fees, discounted yoga classes and many more, all of which several employees have already had benefit from.

Ken Webb SERC Principal and Chief Executive said “This is the first time SERC has been nominated and it’s an exciting milestone and a tremendous achievement to reach the finals. It identifies our commitment to looking after the welfare of all our employees. A healthy workplace is fundamental to healthy and productive employees and imperative if we are to continue to provide a high standard of education.”

The winners will be announced on Thursday 14 June where 600 guests will sit down to a glittering bash in Titanic Belfast.
