From education to employment

Greater Manchester employers put to the test in National Apprenticeship Week battle of the businesses

A two-year campaign designed to increase the uptake of apprenticeships across Greater Manchester is putting employers in the hot seat for National Apprenticeship Week with its new initiative, ‘The Pitch’.

The ‘See Things Differently’ campaign will be releasing a number of videos across National Apprenticeship Week which will see leading employers from across the region pitted against each other, as they pitch their business to the young people of Greater Manchester.

Deborah Holmwood, Project Lead at Marketing Manchester, said: “Today’s school leaver is more commercially aware than ever. They understand the dual concept of continued education whilst earning a salary, and now see this as a credible route to a career rather than a second choice to university. This means that employers will need to step up their game if they are to attract the very best of the region’s young talent – they need to develop their pitch, fine tune their progression opportunities and be prepared for battle.”

Greater Manchester businesses Siemens, ANS Group, The Co-operative, MAN Diesel and MC2 will feature in the first round of pitches, with more companies lined up to get involved over the coming months.

Deborah added: “We want young people to understand the vast range of opportunities that are out there in the region. Greater Manchester is home to some of the UK’s most pioneering businesses; you need only look to MediaCityUK as an example of a sector that is truly booming, and it’s all there for the taking for those young people that are prepared to go out and grab it.”

National Apprenticeship Week is in its 10th year and runs from 6th – 10th March 2017.
