TUC President to speak at Supporting Learners event in January

TUC President, and Unionlearn board member, Dr Mary Bousted will be speaking at the first in a series of Supporting Learners conferences being held in early 2017.

The event will be held on Monday 16th January in Congress House, and is the first of a series of six regional Supporting Learners Conferences being held across the country.

Dr Bousted is General Secretary of teaching union ATL, and when appointed as TUC President earlier in the year was keen to focus on learning and skills, and saying: “I will make education a key priority of my Presidential year – across all sectors, and including adult skills development which unionlearn has championed so successfully.”

“Union Learning Reps have a positive impact on workplaces across the country – supporting learners gain skills that are vital to businesses and the economy of the region – as well as being important for personal development and health and wellbeing.”

“This unionlearn Supporting Learners conference, along with the other regional events, will focus on giving unions the latest tools and information needed to support learners and improve the lives of working people, and I’m looking forward to speaking at the conference and meeting reps.”

The conference will be a practical and informative event featuring guest speakers, updates from unionlearn on workplace learning and examples from ULRs and unions on their work on Learning and Skills, ULRs, officers and reps are invited to get together for the day and exchange their experiences and ideas.

With activities planned on supporting learners, initial learner assessments, social media, online learning, health and well-being and more there will be something for all ULRs, reps and union officers on the programme.

The Congress House event is on Monday 16th January – will run from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm and includes lunch.
