Ufi Ventures Invests In Language Learning Company

Midlands-based language learning specialists Learning Labs (@FlashAcademy_HQ) have secured a £150,000 investment from @UfiVentures

The money will be used to support the continued the rapid growth of the company, including a scaling up of their FlashAcademy® Workplace product.

Alongside funding from Ufi Ventures, which invests in early-stage companies developing vocational technologies, Learning Labs have also secured investment from Midven and several other individual investors.

Learning Labs’ platform, called FlashAcademy®, uses a unique and proven combination of lessons, games, flashcards, tutor videos, and object translators to support people in becoming more confident in using English where it is not their first language.

Learning Labs believe that better language skills in a vocational setting can lead to more productivity and improved health & safety in multi-lingual workplaces. This was trialled during the development of FlashAcademy Workplace with project partner Lander Automotive.

Joe Ludlow, Impact Investment Director for Ufi Ventures said:

The UK needs to radically improve access to high-quality essential skills training as it seeks to rebuild the labour market after Covid-19.

There are 9m workers in the UK with low literacy, limiting their access to work now, and to further training for the jobs of the future.

Learning Labs is the UK’s leading developer of technology for learners of English as an additional language in schools, training, and workplaces and we’re very pleased to join them on their growth journey.

Veejay Lingiah, CEO of FlashAcademy said:

Learning Labs and Ufi’s relationship is built upon a mutual goal of exploring how innovative technology can help accelerate and transform people’s skills for work.

Having worked with Ufi for a number of years as a grant provider, I’m delighted that they are now coming on board as an institutional investor to help us make the biggest impact possible with our FlashAcademy® app technology to improve English workplace skills.

Through the VocTech Trust, and now Ufi Ventures, we have received outstanding support and I’m sure together we can continue to change the world of adult vocational skills.

The FlashAcademy® Workplace platform will now be developed further to support employees seeking to improve their workplace English skills.

It helps employers to provide health & safety training and core technical role vocabulary from over 30 different home languages which will help keep employees safe and progressing at a faster rate.
