From education to employment

.@UniNorthants delivers smart campus

A first-class digital transformation of The University of Northampton’s IT provision has been delivered in advance of its move to a new £330 million Waterside Campus in September 2018.

By embracing the latest technology available, the University has ambitions to become a digital leader in UK higher education.

The University has partnered with cloud automation specialist PowerON to deliver the full suite of Microsoft System Center solutions as part of its new smart campus programme, purpose built with an intelligent technology infrastructure capable of supporting new ways of teaching, learning and working.

Philip Mercer, Managing Director of PowerON, says: “Technology is a key enabler for the new campus and Microsoft System Center, which is an all-encompassing management solution, is a key component. Delivering this via our Cloud Management Appliance gave us a competitive edge, as it provided an operationally ready system out of the box, which could then be further enhanced and customised.”

Phillip adds: “The University of Northampton is one of the first institutions to deploy the full System Center suite. By adopting such a modern suite of management tools, in line with the transition to the new modern campus, the technology will support it in delivering a fully unified approach across its operations.”

Rob Palfreman, Head of IT at the University, says: “The University believes the partnership with PowerON will future proof the new campus allowing us to meet the changing needs and demands of students.”

PowerON provides powerful, high quality IT management and cloud automation solutions to organisations of all sizes in the public and private sectors. It was founded in 2015 by experienced IT professionals Phil Mercer and Steve Beaumont. PowerON has seen its turnover almost double to over £2m during that period. The company employs 27 staff from its offices in York, Lincolnshire and Surrey.
