Chloe Steel, a BTEC National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering student, has been crowned Doncaster College CADCAM champion 2009.

More than 30 students competed over two months for the title, and to see their CADCAM (Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacture) creations come to life.

"I feel very proud to be chosen as the winner and that my design is going to be made and passed around all the other colleges. It was a challenging task but it’s given us a sense of what the industry is like," said Ms Steel.

The competition celebrates the talents of engineering students, and this year they were hoping their design would be chosen for a stand to support a baton for the prestigious League for Learning conference in May. The stand will then make its way to each member college every year for the baton to rest on.

Aaron Foley, 18, a BTEC National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering student, finished runner-up, and shared High Street gift vouchers with the winner.

The League for Learning was launched in 2004 by several colleges across the country to champion learning. They are: Doncaster College, John Ruskin College, West Nottinghamshire College, Castle College Nottingham, City College Norwich, Guildford College, North Hertfordshire College and Knowsley Community College.
