A former Barking & Dagenham College student was named as a finalist for a prestigious national award last week.

Now in its third year, British Education Awards celebrates the academic and extracurricular achievements of students in the UK. Young people, their families and teachers, along with politicians, professionals and celebrities from across the UK come together to celebrate educational attainment.

Edward Flack, who completed a BTEC in IT at the College last summer, was shortlisted as a finalist in recognition of his brilliant academic results and extracurricular success within the vocational category.

The ceremony was held at the Hilton Manchester on Friday 1st February and Edward was invited to attend the black tie event along with his former college tutor Shafaat Shah who nominated Edward for the award.

British Education Awards organiser, Amin Chowdhury said: “This year’s British Education Awards Finalists have shown an admirable level of focus and dedication to their studies, invariably balancing demanding timetables of external activities alongside their official curriculum to achieve incredible academic results.”

Edward said: “It was an honour to be nominated as a finalist for the award; it’s really nice to think that the college are still thinking about me, even after I left. It was great to be amongst so many talented students.

“I would never have thought I’d get recognised as a success in education, I have by no means been the perfect student, but I am grateful for this experience as well as all the other experiences Barking & Dagenham College has given me.”
