Awarding body leaders take up senior corporation roles at Walsall College

Walsall College’s governing corporation has welcomed the appointment of Alan Woods OBE as the new Chair of the Corporation and Charlotte Bosworth as Vice Chair.

Alan, who is chief executive of the awarding organisation, VTCT, will be taking over from Allan Pinnegar, following his four years in office (and ten years’ service with the corporation).

Prior to joining VTCT, Alan ran his own company consulting on apprenticeships and learning, held positions as director for the University of Law, CEO of Skills for Justice and had a role with the UK Sector Skills Council for the Justice sector. He has served on the Corporation since 2016 and was elected Vice Chair in 2018.

Charlotte is Managing Director of Innovate Awarding; a regulated awarding body and end point assessment organisation.  She joined Walsall College as a governor in xxx and has vast experience in curriculum, assessment and qualification design.

Commenting on the appointments, Principal and Chief Executive, Jatinder Sharma OBE said: “The Corporation were unanimous in their view that Alan and Charlotte build on our track record of delivering a high quality education experience that supports the upskilling of individuals and workforces.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Allan whose knowledge, dedication and drive helped us lead the way in many areas of vocational and technical further education practice.

Jatinder continued: “Having already shared a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm with the board, Alan and Charlotte are ideally placed to help us meet our ambitions for continued growth and development while championing digital innovation and a sustainable, greener future.”

Alan said: “I am honoured to be taking up this new role.  The college has much to be proud of, from an education and training curriculum closely aligned to local skills priorities to a highly regarded portfolio of business and community partnerships.  I am confident that by utilising these and the college many other strengths, we can achieve  further success for all our students, creating a positive impact across the region and beyond.”

Charlotte said: “I am very excited about this new opportunity and look forward to playing my part in helping college students fulfil their potential.”
