Blackburn College stop off, have you ever seen as many Mayors in one place?

The best of Blackburn and Darwen was on show during the annual Mayor’s Civic Tour – which included a stop off at Blackburn College.

As part of the day, the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Pat McFall, and her daughters, Mayoress Lucie Higham and Mayoress Rona McFall, took mayors and mayoresses from Lancashire to see some of the Borough’s highlights which included having lunch at Scholars Restaurant.

20 Mayor and Mayoresses from across Lancashire were in attendance on the day, alongside 10 mayoral officers – all were served a three course meal in Scholars Restaurant by the College’s Catering and Hospitality students.

The Mayors and Mayoresses received a welcome address from Graham Towse, Interim Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College prior to lunch.

Mayoress Lucie Higham said: “We chose Scholars Restaurant as I’ve always really liked the food there and the venue is looks great since it was recently refurbished.

“The food was amazing and all the Mayors and Mayoresses were really impressed that the students were cooking and serving the food.

“They were also really impressed that you could book Scholars as a member of the public and see first hand the work the students’ do.

“It was an excellent showcase of the Catering and Hospitality students work at Blackburn College.”

One of the students serving the Mayors was Joseph Wilkin, aged 17 from Accrington.

The former St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy pupil, who is studying a Level 2 Food and Beverage service qualification said:

“I really like the practical experience that I have gained by being able to work in Scholars Restaurant. Serving so many Mayors is quite an unusual experience but I enjoyed it.”

The mayoral Civic Tour started at Blackburn Cathedral’s historic crypt for breakfast. They then took in a tour of the cathedral before heading on to Crown Paints in Darwen.

After a lunch at Scholars Restaurant at Blackburn College, the VIPs went on a tour of BBC Radio Lancashire and then Blackburn Museum, finishing off with afternoon tea at The Mayor’s Parlour at Blackburn Town Hall.
