IT students from Barking & Dagenham College heading to top of the world!

Three IT students from Barking & Dagenham College have won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in first round of the WorldSkills UK Competition 2019.

Designed by industry experts, the Competitions equip apprentices and students with the world-class skills needed to help UK businesses better compete globally. Thousands of students compete in a series of national competitions for the opportunity to take part in the world finals. The 45th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Kazan, Russia in August.

The trio took part in the first heat of the IT Technician Support World Skills 2019 competition competing with Bedford College.

1st place went to 17 year old Alexsandru Stancu from Romford with classmates Shahin Kotarja, 18 from Upney and Josiah James, 16 from Rainham coming second and third respectively.

They now hope to progress to the second round the national competition which could lead them to the world finals.

Their tutor Alfie Zekaj said: “I am very proud of all the learners. Well done to all of them.”
