Barnsley College cook helps out at Barnsley Hospital

@BarnsleyCollege Catering Services’ Cook Daniel Lambert has been busy helping to produce meals for #NHS staff at Barnsley Hospital.

Based in the main kitchen, Daniel offered his services to help prepare free meals for NHS staff combating COVID-19 at Barnsley Hospital. The kitchen is experiencing a high number of staff dining throughout the day and the extra help is much needed.

Daniel said: “This is my way of showing respect and deep appreciation for the tremendous work the NHS staff are doing to save lives. It was important to help out as the whole country is going through something that is unheard of.

“I previously worked at Barnsley Hospital for 14 years prior to joining Barnsley College, so I knew my way around the kitchen and could get started straight away. I even got my mum a temporary voluntary place in the kitchen.”

Paul Haytree, ISS General Manager at Barnsley Hospital, added: “Daniel came into Barnsley Hospital to support ISS Catering staff in the Catering department whilst we have been feeding NHS staff in the support in the battle against COVID-19. He fitted in like he hadn’t been away. Daniel has been a valuable pair of hands assisting the team preparing and cooking meals for up to 2,500 people in the restaurant and the admitted patients on the wards.

“It has been unprecedented times in the whole of the UK, so coming forward at this difficult time to assist our team to feed the NHS staff has been greatly appreciated and shows a selfless act, with having his mum assisting too, it’s been a real family affair.”
