Edge Hill (@edgehill) has been crowned University of the Year in the Educate North Awards in recognition of its continued commitment to deliver an exceptional student experience.

The University was awarded the coveted top prize for the exceptional progress it has made to deliver investment and innovation over the past 12 months and its dedication to placing students at the heart of everything it does.

The prestigious award was announced in a specially streamed event that saw leading figures from across the region’s educational sector join together to celebrate excellence in further and higher education.

Also on the night, Edge Hill University’s Vice-Chancellor Dr John Cater picked up the esteemed lifetime achievement accolade in recognition of his vision of education as a force for good.

Dr Cater – the longest-serving head of a UK higher education institution – has been instrumental in the transformation of Edge Hill into a thriving university acclaimed for high levels of student satisfaction and for the enhancement of social mobility, whilst increasingly enhancing its reputation for globally-significant research.

Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Cater, said:

“Delivering a first-class student experience has always been at the heart of Edge Hill’s ethos, which makes this recognition even more meaningful. The University is committed to the experience we provide from the first day that our students join us, right through to their employment journey as graduates.

“Initiatives such as our Student Journey Project and Student Opportunity Fund, as well as the continued investment into our campus are borne out of our ambition to create the best possible environment for our students to thrive and achieve.

“In such a challenging and unprecedented year for the education sector, we have remained committed to placing our students at the centre of our decisions. We believe this focus benefits everyone, from the students themselves, to the employers who recruit them and the people whose lives are improved with our talented alumni. This award bears testament to the outstanding work of the staff and students who represent Edge Hill.”
