From education to employment

Art, Design & Media Exhibition 2016 at Westminster Kingsway College

Art, Design and Media students transformed Westminster Kingsway College’s King’s Cross Centre with their end of year exhibition, displaying their key projects and assignments from the last academic year.
The exhibition showed work from Interactive Media, Digital, Fashion, Fine Art, Games and Design students with a rich display of varying art forms. As well as static pieces, visitors could watch short films produced by the students and interact with pieces using virtual reality headsets. Westminster Kingsway College students really brought the exhibition to life through the expression of their own personal journeys using their art work.

Mala Bhuiya, UAL Level 3 Animation and Games student, said: “I have gained so much from studying Animation and Games at Westminster Kingsway College. In my first year, I learnt 3D modelling, animating, video editing and graphics design. In my second year, I focused more on digital sculpting using software called ZBrush.

I am now going on to study Games Design at Sheffield Hallam University and to learn more about designing props, characters and environments for the games industry. My ambition for the future is to become an Art Producer in the Triple-A Games industry. The difference between individual games and Triple-A games, is that Triple-A games have a bigger budget, so they include games such as, Call of Duty and Halo. This course has helped me to discover my passion for 3D modelling and I now want to specialise in 3D design.”

John Kelly, Programme Manager for Art, Design and Media at Westminster Kingsway College, said: “This year’s Art Show really incorporates developments over the past year within the media, arts and fashion industries. Our students, guided and supported by the lecturers and technical support staff, are working in more collaborative ways with traditional techniques and materials being blended with new digital approaches.  This year we have seen even higher attendance figures with more people from industry and partner colleges coming to the show; many of whom have praised the skill, ability and resourcefulness in putting together such a fabulous display of art, design, fashion, games, animation and digital media.”
