Bakery students are the ‘crème de la crème’

Leading bakers from Roberts Bakery have completed the bakery excellence programme in partnership with Tameside College.

The six bakers who completed the programme were treated to a three course meal in the college’s Reflections restaurant to celebrate their hard work.

During the event, each baker was presented with a certificate by Jackie Moores, Principal of Tameside College and Neil Burgess, bakery consultant for Roberts Bakery.

The course which includes a mixture of practical and classroom based elements helps Roberts bakers to develop their bread, dough and flour skills and is exclusively designed for their employees. It also allows them to develop specialist techniques such as Chorleywood bread processing.

Roberts Bakery, based in Cheshire, makes 80 million loaves per year and provides the service to businesses and supermarkets throughout the north-west of England and beyond.

Steven Lee, bakery teacher at Tameside College, said:

“It’s great that these students have completed the course. They can now go on to become leaders in their fields with a wider knowledge of bakery and its technicalities. They have been treated to a great event and rightly so, with all the hard work they have put in to finish the course.”

Neil Burgess, said:

“Roberts Bakery is a growing business and for our staff to take part in a specialist course like this is fantastic for us. We are really pleased with the result and, hopefully, we will be putting six more of our bakers through the course next year.”
