Bradford College Boosts Reading

Students and staff at Bradford College have had their heads in books for the past six months as part of a reading challenge.

The college library staff launched the Big Read challenge at the start of the year to encourage those around the campus to explore the vast range of titles in the library’s 76,000 strong collection .

Those who signed up were asked to read at least six books in six months, with at three of them being fiction.

All those who completed the challenge were entered into a prize draw to win a range of prizes including vouchers donated by Blackwell Bookshop, Wordery online bookstore and the college’s on-site hair and beauty salon.

Julie Lonsdale, librarian, said: “In total 158 readers took part in the Bradford College Big Read.

“Quite a number confessed they didn’t like reading but then got hooked. One student said that if it hadn’t been for the challenge they wouldn’t have read as much.

“The library staff helped run a number of reading groups which were really enjoyed by the students, who liked the chance to chat about books and all asked for them to continue next year.”
