From education to employment

Inclusions Dave Simmonds discusses youth unemployment

Dave Simmonds, Chief Executive of the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion (CESI) discusses youth unemployment at the Youth Employment Convention.

Dave explains that the labour market for young people is going to remain tough for some time to come, and that the reality is that a large number of 16-24 year olds are going to find themselves potentially unemployed for 6 months or even longer. With this reality the country should be a lot more passionate about improving the youth labour prospects and identifying solutions to improve youth employment.

The big question from the Youth Employment Convention is what can the sector do to help young people during their period of unemployment. Dave explores some of the ideas as to what the sector could be doing to encourage and assist young people to be find long term sustainable employment and what young people need to do if they find themselves in a period of unemployment.
