From education to employment

London based Primo Toys wins international award at the world’s leading event for learning technology

London based Primo Toys, the educational toy company has won the prestigious Bett award in the ‘Early Years Content’ category for its Cubetto Playset.

Cubetto is a wooden robot designed to teach children how to code using a tangible programming language that doesn’t use screens or require children to be literate. Coinciding with the British Education Training and Technology Show (bett), the world’s leading event for learning technology, the awards are considered the highest accolade in the industry.

The Bett Awards play a key role in identifying and rewarding excellence in the education trade. The winning organisations were announced at the Bett Awards dinner in London on Wednesday 24 January.

The panel of judges comprised of education experts, who evaluate each entry based on its appreciation of the sector’s needs and commitment to supporting education standards, said, “We loved the simplicity, style and sturdiness of the cube which has excellent design features based on the fundamentals of great early years’ practice. It has huge potential for enhanced teacher support too.”

The annual Bett Awards are delivered in partnership between BESA, the trade association representing the educational suppliers industry, and Ascential Events, the organisers of Bett, the world’s leading edtech show.

The awards highlight outstanding education sector products, learning solutions, companies and people.

Patrick Hayes, director of BESA and chair of judges for the Bett Awards, said:

“This year we had more entries than ever before from all over the globe, and our panel of esteemed judges had an incredibly hard time to select the winners – even harder than usual!

“To be shortlisted is a great achievement in itself, but to be crowned a Bett Awards winner at such a time of global EdTech innovation is something to truly celebrate. On behalf of all the judges, I would like to congratulate Primo Toys – their teams should be extremely proud of receiving an accolade that is recognised by schools across the world.”

Simon Presswell, managing director, Bett Global Series at Ascential Events added:

“The education sector growth in the UK outpaces that in many other countries, and some of the most exciting and effective innovation is in education-based technology. As exports of our expertise continue to increase, the Bett Awards play an increasingly vital role in helping educators to identify the very best products, services and people that are helping to transform education, not just in the UK but globally.

“I would like to congratulate the team at Primo Toys for its constant determination to achieve excellence for schools across the world.”

Filippo Yacob, CEO at Primo Toys added,

“We had a fantastic time at the Bett show this year, discovering the latest innovations in the sector, and meeting with educators and industry pros. The show was topped off by receiving the prestigious Bett award, which is centred around content. It really highlights the educational value of our work with Cubetto, and the free lesson plans we provide to educators across the world. We have received many design awards, so it’s great to add a new accolade to the list.

“Education is at the core of what we do, it has always underpinned every design decision we have made along the way with our friendly wooden robot, so to have this recognition is a milestone moment. Our ultimate goal is to have 1 billion children in the world introduced to computational thinking in early years by 2020. This award will help us in that journey to help children become the masters of their own digital futures.”
