Edinburgh Business School expands its Incubator.

Business Incubator at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University opened its doors to new businesses this week, bringing the total number of resident start-ups to 14.

Following a competitive application process, businesses ranging from specialists in sensor technologies and food waste recovery to student bedding providers were offered a safe harbour to work on their business plans and develop their products.

The new business ventures joined existing companies in the Incubator and will participate in a structured development programme, which includes training, workshops and mentoring.

Kallum Russell, who is co-ordinating Business Incubator, said:

“Six months after the Edinburgh Business School Incubator was officially opened by HRH Duke of York, we are delighted to expand and welcome new companies to Heriot-Watt campus.

“The new intake will join our existing cohort and will benefit from free space in fully-equipped offices.

“Based at Edinburgh Business School, graduate school of business of Heriot-Watt University, the Incubator offers a unique opportunity to tap into a network of business experts and academics. And we look forward to supporting our Incubees on this exciting journey.”

Professor Laura Galloway, professor of entrepreneurship at Edinburgh Business School, said:

“Our programme is open to all start-ups regardless of their pre-existing links with the University, and the number and quality of applications received proves that there is a huge demand for early stage business support in Scotland.

“The range and variety of businesses hosted by Edinburgh Business School’s Incubator reflects our multidisciplinary approach towards entrepreneurship education and business support.

“We believe everyone should be offered equal opportunities to better themselves and the benefits of this approach are far reaching. This is why Edinburgh Business School offers flexible business education around the world and the reason why we established Business Incubator at our Edinburgh campus.
