From education to employment

Public Services Students at Fire HQ

Students from Bradford College got a glimpse into life in the fire service during a visit to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue headquarters.

The Public Services students spent time at the offices in Bradford and helped out at an event for the Asian Fire Service Association.

Daniel Butterfield, who is on a BTEC Public Services course at the college, said: “It was very interesting to see how the service works from the inside.

“We met a lot of interesting people and make some good contacts for our future careers.”

Jennifer Robertson, a member of staff at Bradford College, said: “The purpose of the event from the college perspective was to give the learners a further insight into the fire service by sitting in on talks and workshops as well as having the opportunity to network with senior and operational officers.

“There were also people there from the police and NHS so they were able to network with people from other public services.

“The theme of the day was around diversity within the fire service and it was an invaluable opportunity for the learners’ enrichment on their public services course.”
