From education to employment

Rainbow Signs collaborate with Local College to Upskill Workers

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has once again prepared individuals to succeed in the workplace by up-skilling local businesses with nationally recognised qualifications.

Rainbow Signs have availed of a range of training and engineering expertise at their local Further Education College thanks to the Department for the Economy’s Skills Focus and Innovate Us programmes.

Based in Hillsborough, Rainbow Signs has over 30 years’ experience in providing quality sign designs, site manufacturing, installation and maintenance for well known brands throughout Northern Ireland and has created an educational partnership with SERC to upskill their employees.

Rainbow Signs has participated in three training programmes with SERC including completing a Level 2 Award in Welding Skills along with completing a 50-hour Innovate Us project that covered 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and computer numerical control (CNC) machining.

The Innovate Us programme, which is offered across Northern Ireland through the FE Colleges, is a fully funded skills development programme which provides small businesses with the capacity to innovate across a range of business development activities.

Earlier in the year the company was nominated for the Commitment to Training award at SERCs graduation ceremony.

SERCs chief training and Contacts Officer William Greer explains “SERC recognises that training and development is an essential aspect of growing the local economy and we recognise that not all companies have the capital to invest in this.

“I would encourage SME’s to take advantage of the Skills Focus funding to up-skill their staff and I encourage all employers to contact their local college about their training needs, since this is a real opportunity for their employees to gain new skills.”

SERC offers a comprehensive range of training programmes to suit the needs of local employers. For more information please email Philip Martin, or call on 07585 669596.
