Record number of Brits currently job-hunting as vacancies reach an all time high

Job website traffic reaches an all-time high as more Brits look to ditch office jobs in 2022

More Brits than ever before are looking for a new job as of January 2022, new data has revealed.

Job hunting is at an all time high, with thousands of job searches on FE News in the past 2 months, as applicants look to start, or progress their career in Further Education Teaching and Skills.

This could be attributed to the usual cases of itchy feet come the new year with the effects of Covid-19 very likely to have further influenced the ā€œBig Quitā€.

Searches for the job-application website, Indeed, were also at an all-time high as of January 2022.

Whatā€™s more, it seems that escaping the office environment is the top priority for Brits, with paramedic and counsellor ranking as the most in-demand positions.

The findings were uncovered by office furniture specialists, EZ Shopper, who used search data to assess the current state of what has been termed ā€œthe Great Resignationā€.

Top ten search terms related to new careers uncovered that the most in-demand roles in the UK within the past 2 months were:

  1. Vaccinator
  2. Paramedic
  3. Counsellor
  4. Social Worker
  5. Train Driver
  6. Nurse
  7. Teacher
  8. Actor
  9. Driving instructor
  10. Police Officer

Not one of the top ten most popular jobs involve an office setup, indicating that Brits are looking for more freedom, flexibility and variety in their careers.

Commenting on the data, EZ Shopperā€™s Director, Will Driscoll, said:

ā€œItā€™s clear to see from the data that ā€˜the great resignationā€™ is very much underway, and whoā€™s really surprised? Weā€™ve all got at least a few friends who have been suffering from burnout throughout the pandemic, and in a post-covid world many of us are reassessing all areas of our lives including our career paths.

ā€œA toxic or uncomfortable workplace can have a huge impact on your mental and physical health. There are certainly ways to improve your office environment, from your desk setup to your colleague interactions; however, the new year could be the time to take the plunge and go for that role youā€™ve been dreaming of after all these years.ā€
