Barking & Dagenham College opens new public library

Barking & Dagenham College celebrated the launch of its new public library by inviting local residents to enjoy a day of fun, magic and face painting!

The new library, which is on the College’s Rush Green campus, now holds a massive range of books, e-books, DVDs, audio books and magazines.   It is part of the London Libraries Consortium, which means members have access to over six million items of stock through a shared library catalogue from 18 libraries across London.  The College’s new library also has computers and photocopying facilities, all available for public use.

During the launch, children had fun finding their new favourite books before being turned into superheroes and animals by the face painters.  While the adults got to have a look around and chat to staff about what is on offer.

Claire Cockburn, the library manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide such a brilliant facility to the local community.  Joining is free, so we really hope that everyone comes along to see what is on offer and take advantage of what is a fantastic service.”

The library is open Monday to Thursday 8.30am-.7pm, Friday 8.30am-5pm and Saturday 9am-1pm – see website for holiday opening hours.
